The servant was a worker employed by Hind and her husband.

Biography[edit | edit source]

After the death of Hind's husband, the family's warehouse was targeted by the robbers terrorizing the valley and she was taken hostage by them as well. She was saved by Basim ibn Ishaq, leaving the location quietly after thanking him profusely. Seeking a safer line of work,[1] she then became the cook at the Musa ibn Nusayr Fort in Al-Ula. At her new job, she was also responsible for delivering the food to the cells, while accompannied by a guard escorting her.[2]

On one of her rounds, she noticed that her rescuer had been placed in a cell, though did not address him and kept on working. Some time later, she returned to his cell, alone, to talk with him. Basim brought up her vow to not forget the service he did her and asked her to get the key to his cell, which she refused to do as it would be far too dangerous. Instead, she offered to aid him by using the mandrake found in the kitchens to brew a sedative to lull the guards to sleep.[2]
