Ah Lushan Rebellion was a revolt against the Tang dynasty. Led by General An Lushan, a member of the Yeluohe splinter group from the Order of the Ancients branch known as the Golden Turtles, it began in December 755 when he attempted to establish his own state of Yan, proclaiming himself as its Emperor and refusing to recognize Emperor Xuanzong's claim to power. The revolt ended in February 763.^[1]
