Hattori Yasunaga (服部 保長) was a Japanese samurai of the Hattori clan who served under the Matsudaira clan and the father of Hattori Hanzō.
Biography
In 1560, Yasunaga received his son Hanzō back at home in Mikawa where he asked his son about his progress and training under Momochi Sandayu as a shinobi. However, he feigned interest and told Hanzō to return home, to relinquish this game of being a shinobi, and to become a samurai for their clan. However, Hanzō admitted that he had found two friends and needed to continue his training. Hearing this, Yasunaga called his son weak before dismissing him. Upon Hanzō leaving, he saw a vision of his mother and recalled a difficult childhood memory of Yasunaga hitting his mother.[1]
