Grand Temple

The Grand Temple or The Central Vault was created by people of the First Civilization. It was an underground vault in northeast America where they massed the knowledge acquired by the research of Jupiter, Minerva and Juno, hoping to find methods of the Earth's salvation from the incoming solar flare.

Like the other Vaults, it was buried in order to protect their contents from the war with humanity and the solar flare. It was hidden beneath a statue dedicated to the Capitoline Triad. However, the statue was destroyed in the solar flare and its location was unknown until Desmond's revelation.

All information from the other temples about any way to prevent the first disaster would be sent there for Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva to "sort and sample all that was collected." The three then tested six possible solutions in succession, "each more encouraging than the last," but all six solutions ultimately failed."^[1]

In 2012, a comatose Desmond Miles relived the memories of his ancestor Ezio Auditore in 1506. Ezio and Leonardo da Vinci entered the Pythagorean Vault, which gave the coordinates to the Temple: 43 39 19 N 75 27 42 W. Both Ezio and Leonardo didn't understand what the numbers meant, but Ezio said that the message was not intended for them, and the two left the Vault. William Miles, Desmond's father and the de facto head of the Assassins in 2012, observed the memory and dispatched a team of Assassins to the coordinates, located near Turin, New York.^[2]

Desmond soon relived Ezio's memories in 1512: the Mentor had entered Altaïr's library and was used by Altaïr's Piece of Eden to deliver a message to Desmond. The three genetic memories of Altaïr, Ezio, and Desmond having come together, Desmond entered a Synch Nexus where Jupiter gave him the location of the Grand Temple and informed him to go there. Desmond awoke with William, Rebecca Crane and Shaun Hastings near the Grand Temple, stating he knew what they had to do.
