Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple

Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple is a comic that was released on the Webtoon platform. The series follows the Korean-American Noa Kim in Macau, China following his abduction by Abstergo Industries. Once captured, Dr. Shimazu Sei forces Noa to relive the genetic memories of his ancestor, the Welsh-born British Assassin Edward Kenway to further the Templars' goals. The historical events of the comic take place after Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

Synopsis

Edward Kenway returns to take the leap of faith in an all-new adventure. The high-seas hunt is on for a long-lost treasure left by Those Who Came Before. But this time, the Templars aren't the only ones after the prize. Join history's most cunning pirate in an epic journey around the Chinese Sea.

Development

In April 2021, the new webtoon was announced alongside eight other future Assassin's Creed projects. Game Informer reported that the comic would expand on the story of Edward Kenway following the events of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It would also be part of the new Ubisoft collection of 'Chronicles', new adventures featuring familiar faces. Ubisoft's official site notes that the webtoon will contain 3 seasons of 50 episodes.

On 12 April 2023, the webtoon was officially named Assassin's Creed: Forgotten Temple and the first 6 episodes of 150 were announced to release on 24 April. While users could gain early access to read episodes 2–6 by paying a 50¢ fee for each installment, the issues would also release for free to the public every Tuesday.

	001	25 April 2023	In February 1725, Edward Kenway escapes pursuers in the port of Macau. In 2023, Noa Kim wins a trip to Macau with all expenses paid for by Abstergo Industries after doing a DNA test to discover his ancestry, but the trip does not go according to Noa's plan.
	002	2 May 2023	Following his abduction by Abstergo, Noa is forced to relive Edward's memories in the Animus. After receiving information about a potential new Precursor site, Edward travels to Macau to find John Young, a navigator who claims to have discovered the ruins of Angkor, the lost city of the Khmer Empire. Edward interrogates John, only to find that he stole the story from his friend Hendrik.
	003	9 May 2023	After protecting John from a group of attacking ninja, Edward has John take him to Hendrik, only to find the man mortally wounded. Before dying, Hendrik tells Edward about the location of a "piece" in Angkor and gives him a letter to deliver to his family, triggering an intense emotional reaction from Noa which causes a brief synchronization error.
	004	16 May 2023	Edward is mistaken for Hendrik's killer by his Dutch East India Company colleagues and is forced to flee, eventually managing to escape his pursuers. However, he is again attacked by ninja of the Shimazu clan, who chase him to the port, where Edward saves an innocent man named Zhang before a cannonball hits the water near them. In the present, Doctor Shimazu Sei informs Mitsuko Nakamura of Noa's progress reliving Edward's memories, and is left in charge of the operation as Nakamura leaves to return to Abstergo's headquarters.
	005	23 May 2023	Edward and Zhang are rescued by John, who wishes to continue his adventures with Edward and stole a Company ship. While the port is patrolled by the navy, Zhang offers to help Edward and John hide in a village south of Macau. Edward hunts two alligators to return the villagers' favor of hospitality. However, the feast is interrupted by a female villager's worsening health. Noa realizes the illness is cholera and wants to help, but causes another synchronization error.
	006	30 May 2023	Noa's attempts to help the sick woman from Edward's memory cause the Animus to react violently and electrocute him, forcing Shimazu Sei to end the session. After Noa's condition is stabilized, Sei visits him in his room and tells him the truth about the Animus, the Assassin-Templar War, and Abstergo's efforts to locate a Piece of Eden. Noa refuses to cooperate at first and attacks Sei, but after being subdued by Abstergo security, he decides to strike a deal instead.
	007	6 June 2023	Noa offers to go back into the Animus willingly in exchange for his freedom and being given free rein to do what he wants while in the Animus. Sei agrees to Noa's terms, but warns him to not interfere with his ancestor's history. At Zhang's village, Edward is determined to aid the sick villagers with a remedy of salt and sugar. After conferring with John, he makes his way back to Macau and sneaks into a warehouse owned by businesswoman Madam Lee. Although finding the resources, Edward later eavesdrops on Lee's guards and learns that she bought Hendrik's sea log.
	008	13 June 2023	Madam Lee's warehouse is set on fire by Shimazu ninja attempting to kill Edward, who manages to escape with some salt and sugar. After killing most of the ninja, Edward tries to interrogate one of the survivors, but he commits suicide by stabbing himself on Edward's Hidden Blade. As Dutch soldiers arrive on the scene, Edward leaves to return to Zhang's village with the resources. In the present, Noa recalls his conversation with Sei regarding the Assassin-Templar war, and how he decided to learn the truth for himself by reliving Edward's memories, without Sei's bias against the Assassins.
	009	20 June 2023	Edward escapes from Macau, once again with the help of John and his ship. The pair return to Zhang's village, where their remedy saves most of the sick villagers. To repay the favor, Zhang and his fellow laborers agree to become Edward's informants in Macau. After a week, they manage to confirm Madam Lee has Hendrik's sea log and inform Edward and John. In the present, Sei comments on the Assassins' stubborn belief that they can help everyone, and is concerned to see that same stubborness in Noa.
	010	27 June 2023	Edward is informed of Hendrik's log being kept in the Mandarin's House, the private residence of Madam Lee. Venturing alone, he infiltrates the house and finds the log, but is caught red-handed by Lee, who reveals she is aware of his identity. Both are then caught off-guard by an attack by Shimazu ninja outside. In the present, Noa retorts Sei's earlier remarks about the Assassins being criminals due to Edward not killing anyone during his infiltration.
	011	4 July 2023	After saving Madam Lee from one of the attacking ninja, Edward helps her guards fight off the intruders. Upon spoting their masked leader, he engages him in a duel. Despite coming out on top, the masked leader retreats alongside his ninja, though not before revealing his name: Shimazu Saito. Edward realizes that Saito has taken Hendrik's log from him during their duel, but not a letter that Edward had found inside the log earlier.
