Uranus was a primordial personification of the sky in the Greek mythology. His Roman counterpart is called Caelus.

During the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra found the Dagger of Kronus, the dagger which was inspired by the tale of how the Titan Kronos castrated and deposed his father Uranus.[1]

Trivia

  • With Gaia, Uranus fathered the Cyclopes, the Titans and the Hecatoncheires. The Erinyes, the Giants and the Meliae were said to have come forth from the drops of Uranus' blood that fell to earth following his castration.
  • In some stories of the goddess Aphrodite's birth, she was born from Uranus' severed genitals, thrown into the sea.
