The Blitz, from the German word blitzkrieg, meaning 'lightning war', was the name used by the British press to describe the heavy air raids carried out over Britain in 1940 and 1941, during the Second World War. The German air offensive was concentrated, aimed at the direct bombing of industrial targets and civilian centers. It began with heavy raids on London during the latter phase of the battle for air superiority over the United Kingdom which became known as the Battle of Britain.[1]
The Blitz's bombings
During the first strike of the Blitz, Eddie Gorm, along with newfound associates Boris Pash and Julia Dusk, were caught in the explosion of the attack. As they barely survived, Eddie went to check on his family while walking through the rubble of destroyed homes. He found Stan, but only to hear that they were killed instantly when a bomb hit his house in London.
Days after the bombings, Eddie and other survivors found themselves in an abandoned subway station. With this loss, Pash and Dusk found and prompted Eddie to work as a double-agent for the United States. Pash asked that he would infiltrate and connect himself with Jack Turpin, who was really a German spy named Otto Hammerstein. Drunk and bereft, Eddie agreed to aid the Americans.[2]
