Tomo Sakagawa is a Japanese Assassin who posed as "Dr. Florent Carpentier" in the Clinique des Rameaux in Switzerland, where an amnesiac Elisa Adler was sent by her parents, Alice and Thomas Adler, following her car accident in the Pyrenees. His goal was to find and have his revenge on Maxime Gorm, an Templar who led assault teams on the Assassins during the Great Purge and killed his mother Yuri.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Tomo was the son of Yuri, the overseer of the Japanese Brotherhood of Assassins' training camp on the island of Kyushu before the Great Purge. Despite being raised among Assassins, Tomo wasn't given any martial training, as his mother didn't want him to become a killer and opposed Osaka, believing that in order to face the Templars, a modern Brotherhood needed less warriors and more scientists, as she intended her son to be. Consequently, Tomo was regularly mocked by the other children, who had a more traditional training.[1]

In 2000, Tomo was played nearby, while Hajime Shimada was talking with Yuri about ordering an immediate evacuation and joining with their brothers in Osaka, after informing her about Daniel Cross's betrayal and the beginning of the Great Purge. However, it was too late, as the Templars, led by Maxime Gorm, suddenly launched their attack on the camp with Yuri being killed. On Yuri's last breath, Tomo was saved by Hajime, who succeeded to move the boy to safety as they later settled in Tokyo.[1]

Tracking Gorm[edit | edit source]

By 2017, a now independent Tomo had become proficient in computer science and hacking, working in the amusement arcade hall of Mr. Takanori, while searching every databases for clues on Gorm's whereabouts during his spare time. In July, Tomo eventually discovered that Gorm was last seen in Switzerland, with the names of Nathalie Chapman, Templar technicians Thomas Adler and Alice Adler, and their daughter Elisa Adler coming up in his investigation. Convincing Hajime, Tomo traveled by himself to Switzerland in October, under the guise of Dr. Florent Carpentier and tried to meet Chapman at her clinic. Fortunately, he was hired and was put to work with a young female patient named Elisa.[1]

Within the month, he finally gained Elisa's trust as she told him her real full name. However, Tomo was caught by Chapman, who revealed herself to be an Assassin. Being taken to her base in the Gorges du Pont-du-Diable, Tomo was asked to help relive a former Assassin's life, Alekseï Gavrani, by first de-encrypting a firewall set by Abstergo Industries. After solving the problem, Tomo entered her Animus Omega and began to relive Gavrani's life. However, as a result, he developed the Bleeding Effect. He soon noticed Chapman's activities being dubious which he reported to Hajime.[1]

Taking Elisa out in Geneva, Tomo found out that Elisa was also a test subject of Nathalie as he found out that she was finding amnesiac patients to wipe and resurrect past Assassins' memories into their brains. Realizing the truth, he told Hajime his findings as he took Elisa back to her parents. While infiltrating the Adler's home in Madrid, all four of them had a conversation regardning Elisa's recovery process. However, a kidnapped Maxime Gorm appeared in the room and announced his presence.[2][1]

Tomo made a quick call to the Brotherhood to let them know that he found Gorm and that he was proceeding with the elimination. Quickly, he threw a knife toward Gorm, but the knife instead hit Thomas in the chest, killing him instantly. Tomo was soon jumped by Alice before he stabbed her brain with his Hidden Blade. With Gorm to himself, he attacked the Templar but was beaten and stabbed in the eye. Knocked out, Tomo was left behind as Maxime took Elisa and ran away.[2][1]

Stuck in the Animus[edit | edit source]

Sometime later, he awoke in Chapman's base with Hajime running the operation as he was forced to continue to relive Gavrani's life to find the Apple's location and Chapman's purpose with it. However, his time in the Animus was paused once one of Hajime's stopped the progress due to a spotting of an escaped Chapman. Yet, Tomo awoke from his simulation and thought himself to be Gavrani and those around him to be Assassins under Boris Pash. In response, he destroyed the facility and killed all the Assassins within, including his surrogate father, Hajime. As the Bleeding Effect wore off, Tomo apologized as he was told to contact Saeko Mochizuki of the Osaka cell.[3]

However, with Gavrani's skills, Tomo left to find Elisa. He soon tracked their whereabouts in Chapman's larger base, hidden in the Swiss Alps. He soon broke into a room, where Elisa was waiting. Being attacked by Elisa, Tomo apologized for killing her parents and told her of Gorm's role in his mother's death and Chapman's plan to unleash more like Gorm out into the world. Concocting a plan, he and Elisa soon tricked Chapman's guard, Stanislas, into aiming their guns at her while Tomo took the guards out along with a restrained Maxime. He soon developed a virus of Chapman's version of Project BLUEBIRD.[3]

Revealing himself, Tomo negotiated a deal with Nathalie, which was for a helicopter escape for him and Elisa for the cure for the virus. Once Chapman agreed, he and Elisa escaped the facility as he messaged his side of the deal. However, he planted another virus which would cause Chapman's cooling system to malfunction. Within a matter of time, once Nathalie continued her program again, Tomo's virus began to disrupt the cooling system and made the whole base explode, killing Chapman and her guards and presumably destroying the Apple of Eden she had.[3]
