The War on Terror is an international military campaign conducted by the United States of America along with its allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the hopes of eradicating al-Qaeda and other Islamic extremist terrorist organizations from the world. Initially launched in retaliation for al-Qaeda's September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the conflict has seen the fall of several regimes in the Middle East but has since become intertwined with the emergence of new wars in the region, such as the Syrian Civil War in the wake of the Arab Spring in 2011. As a result, the ongoing political turmoil has expanded to involve other major nations apart from NATO, including Russia.
The President of the United States responsible for initiating the War on Terror, George W. Bush, was a puppet of the Templars during his tenure,[1] and sometime during the conflict, the Assassin leader William Miles assigned one of his agents, Emmanuel Barraza, to discover the Templar role behind it. During the mission, Barraza was forced to eliminate a bus full of bomb-rigged children aimed at a diplomatic conference. His resort violated the first tenet of the Creed—to refrain from harming innocents—even though he managed to protect the peace talks. In consequence, he vowed to never again take another human life, adopting a life of absolute pacifism.[2]
