The Denver International Airport satellite accident, or DIA satellite accident, was an incident that took place at Denver International Airport in the early 21st century, that resulted in a large number of deaths and the destruction of one of the First Civilizations Pieces of Eden - the Second Apple - which was held by Abstergo Industries at the time. A transcript of a cell phone call out of Philadelphia imply that Daniel Cross was involved in the events at DIA, and that the event traumatized him in some manner.^[1]

Dr. Warren Vidic was responsible for preparing the final report for the incident, which indicated that the Abstergo Project Lead at Denver had killed everyone there before the company's clean-up crew arrived.^[2]

At least one civilian, believed to be a baggage handler, witnessed the incident and escaped. By 4th September 2012, this survivor was threatening to expose Abstergo's involvement in the event.^[3]

Aftermath

The loss of the Piece of Eden meant Abstergo Industries could no longer launch their Eye-Abstergo satellite on schedule. In order to find a new Piece of Eden, Abstergo were obliged to place Desmond Miles in an Animus, in order to obtain the locations of other potential replacements.^[2]

Trivia

The last four pieces of equipment that appear in Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy have QR code instead of images. Three QR codes stand for Cochetopa, Sisnaajini and Dzit fit gain, which are Navajo names for mountains in Colorado. These words are carved on the floor of Denver International Airport, and have served as a basis for multiple conspiracy theories. The fourth QR code stands for DIA.
The phrase "going Denver", which is used by employees of Abstergo to describe when things have started to spiral out of control, is derived from the DIA satellite accident.
In Assassin's Creed Initiates, it was revealed that Daniel Cross was in Denver and may have been part of this incident.
