The Poisoner (died 431 BCE), also known as The Poisoner of Athens,^[1] was a mercenary and a snake dealer camping outside the city walls of Athens, Greece in the 430s BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Operations and death[edit | edit source]

When men in the Fishing District of Athens agreed with Kleon's rhetoric and turned against Perikles and his friends, they chose Metiochos as their target. The man known only as the Poisoner was there to provide them with venomous snakes.^[2]

One of the men, Aktis, died after accidentally being bitten by the snakes, but the others, among them Pratinos, carried out their plan; they attacked Metiochos at his home, tied him up, and left him with the Poisoner's snakes. The Spartan misthios Kassandra saved Metiochos, however, and then followed the clues he could give her, finding the men of the Fishing District. They pointed her further to the Poisoner, in his camp outside the walls.^[2]

Kassandra tracked down the Poisoner, fighting and killing him, as well as his snakes.^[2]

Simulation[edit | edit source]

In the simulation of the Underworld created by the Isu Aletheia, the Poisoner was one of the Fallen, and had in his possession the Helmet of the Fallen. During her trials in the simulated Underworld, Kassandra once again encountered the Poisoner and defeated him. She obtained his piece of the Armor of the Fallen in order to pass through the Tartaros Veil's miasma.^[3]

Personality and traits[edit | edit source]

Being a mercenary, the Poisoner would take on a number of jobs for a price. He gave no second thoughts for those he poisoned, nor those who he sold snakes to.^[2] The Poisoner also seemed to have a personal vendetta against politicians in general, planning to poison several before being stopped.^[1] In the simulation of the Underworld, the Poisoner of Athens taunted Kassandra when she encountered him again.^[3]

Equipment and skills[edit | edit source]

The Poisoner wielded a Hunting Knife in combat and wore a variant of the Athenian Linothorax armor as well as a Chalkidian Helmet. He was extremely proficient in the handling of snakes and their poison, throwing poison bombs in combat at his enemies.^[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

While not canon, it is possible to knock out the Poisoner instead of killing him and recruit him as a crew member for the Adrestia. If recruited, he retains his unique appearance.
