| They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Oil Merchant. This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias. |
- "You've made me and Spyro the happiest boys in the world, misthios."
- ―The Oil Merchant, c.428 BCE[src]
The Oil Merchant was a Boeotian merchant who lived in Thebes during the 5th century BCE.
History[edit | edit source]
The Oil Merchant set up the Oil Workshop in Thebes, and sold oil with the help of his trusty steed Spyro. Best of his customers was the local athlete and a champion of Boeotia, Drakon, who had a special liking for the merchant's flammable oil.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War soldiers from Potnies Military Camp stole Spyro, and took it back to their camp.[1]
When the Spartan misthios Kassandra came to Thebes, she found the merchant moaning the loss of Spyro. She offered to save the horse, and the merchant was pleased with this.[1]
