Mt. Pentelikos Marble Quarry was a marble quarry on the Scarred Mountain of Pentelikos in Attika, Greece.
History[edit | edit source]
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra explored the place, finding the place occupied by the Spartan forces, as well as one of the Ainigmata Ostraka within.[1]
Furthermore, she was asked by Kleon, an Athenian politician, to rescue Heremos, his informant from the quarry.[2] Before she could do so, however, Heremos was killed by hanging.[3] Instead of Heremos, Kassandra rescued Onomakles, the captain of Kleon's ship.[4]
