Pylenor
Pylenor was a priest of Asklepios working at the Sanctuary of Asklepios in Argolis, Greece during the 5th century BCE.
Biography[edit | edit source]
During the Peloponnesian War, he assigned the Spartan misthios Kassandra to deal with the sacred snakes that had invaded the bathhouse at the Sanctuary, and inadvertently caused the death of a patient. In return, he promised to tell Kassandra what he knew about a Spartan woman and an injured baby who had come to the Sanctuary in the past. He also urged Kassandra not to kill the snakes as they belong to a fellow priest named Doreios[1]
Kassandra did as asked, but when she returned, Pylenor began chuckling, confessing that the Spartan woman's visited had taken place before his time in the sanctuary and he didn't actually know anything about it. He mentioned that Mydon would know but also warned Kassandra that he would not be talking, not to her or anyone as he continued chuckling at his own sense of humor.[1]
