- "Named for the old man of the sea, Old Nereus is a living legend for veterans, for he carries the name of a fallen god... and the pirates aboard him perpetuate some unspeakable actions that must end."
- ―Description of the ship on the message board[src]
The Old Nereus was a great pirate trireme sailing the Aegean Sea with lesser pirate vessels during the 5th century BCE.
During the Peloponnesian War, the Adrestia, commanded by the Spartan misthios Kassandra and captained by Barnabas, engaged the Old Nereus and his companions in battle, and sank it. Kassandra claimed the ship's sail and finery for her own.[1]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- The name references Nereus, a Greek deity of the sea, whom Homer called Old Man of the Sea in Iliad.
