The Mysteries of Hedone was a minor Greek cult which worshipped Hedone, the Greek goddess of pleasure and enjoyment.

History[edit | edit source]

At the time of the Peloponnesian War, this cult was stationed in Elis near the Spring of Piera, where its members renamed themselves "Hedone" and forewent their old lives. The Spartan misthios Kassandra met with one of the cultists in order to find the actor Tros, who was set to star in a play by Thespis. However, the cultist claimed not to remember Tros, and explained how outsiders were forbidden from meeting with other Hedones.[1]

To join the cult, Kassandra jumped from a waterfall near the spring, and found the treasure hidden in a nearby cave. Returning to the initial cultist, Kassandra was welcomed into the group while she questioned the Hedones around her. Despite not knowing which one was Tros, she eventually picked a suitable actor to portray Ephialtes in Thespis' play.[1]
