Völund was an Isu, regarded as the god of forges in Norse mythology.^[1] Identified with Wayland the Smith.^[2]

The Viking Geirmund Hel-hide first met Völund after a near-death drowning. Völund then gifted him the Hnituðr arm band, which could protect its wearer from harm.^[3]
