"Spartans can build as many boats as they like, but Poseidon will never favor them as he does the Athenians."
―Kassandra[src]

The Village of Gytheion was a small village on the shore of Forest of Eurotas region in Lakonia, Peloponnese, Greece. During the 5th century BCE, it served as a seaport for Sparta.[1]

A statue revering the King of Sparta Orestes was raised in the agora of the village.[2]

In around 429 BCE, the village served as the rendezvous point for Myrrine and her daughter, the misthios Kassandra as they returned to Sparta after almost two decades.[3]

The village was also the home of the shipwright who crafted the heavy trireme Lakonia during the Peloponnesian War.[4]
