The Two Kings of Sparta were the historic joint rulers of the polis of Sparta, in Lakonia, Greece. One was a member of the Agiad dynasty and the other, a member of the Eurypontid dynasty, both of whom claimed lineage from the legendary Greek hero Herakles.
This joint rulership was thought to enforce both kings to be honest, given that they made political decisions together. They were also accountable to the ephors.[1]
History
During the Peloponnesian War the rulership was shared by Kings Archidamos and Pausanias. However, it was disturbed by the misthios Kassandra as she accused one of them being a member of the secretive organization called Cult of Kosmos, and a traitor to Sparta.[2]
