Pactyas (died c. 429 BCE), also known as the Huntsman, was a member of the Order of the Ancients in Persia during the 5th century BCE. As leader of the Order's Order of Hunters branch, he was tasked with hunting down and eliminating the "Tainted Ones".
Biography
Earlier life
Formerly a member of the Persian elite and a friend of both Amorges and Artabanus, he joined the former after the latter attempted to assassinate King Artaxerxes I.[1] Afterwards, at the behest of the Order of Ancients, he specialized in hunting down as many of the "Tainted Ones" as he could, killing them and taking the epithet "the Huntsman" as he rose to lead the Order of Hunters.[2]
Moving to Makedonia
Tasked and eliminating Artabanus, who was going by as Darius as he had fled with his son Natakas to Makedonia, Greece, Pactyas followed them with his group.[1]
In Makedonia, Pactyas learned about the Spartan misthios Kassandra. Coming to the conclusion that she was one of the "Tainted Ones", he lured her to Makedonia by attacking the village of Potidaia.[3] After Kassandra made the acquaintance of Darius and his son Natakas, she set out to hunt Pactyas with them.[1]
Eventually Pactyas decided to meet Kassandra, and lured her to a display he'd crafted within Therme Wetlands. There, he challenged her, but fled the conflict.[4]
