Aegea was a queen of the Amazons in Greek mythology.

Biography

During the Trojan War, Aegea was one of those who joined the Greeks against the Trojans. During their journey at sea, her fleet engaged in a naval battle, which claimed her fellow Amazons. Aegea herself survived as the Isu Poseidon carried her to the shores of Elysium, a realm ruled by Persephone.[1]

After being transported to Elysium, Aegea was given the lands of Deukalion's Heritage and was eventually corrupted by Persephone's influence. She was then placed to oversee the region, ruling from the Fortress of the Three Sisters. Aegea was ultimately freed from Persephone's yoke by death at the hands of the misthios Kassandra, who came to Elysium to master the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus.[2]

Trivia

  • The name Aegea is a back-formation from the Aegean Sea, which was named after Aegeus, a figure in the founding myth of the polis Athens.
