The banner of Korinthia

Korinthia is a regional unit of Greece in the Peloponnese. Named after its main city, Korinth, the area encompassed part of the Isthmus of Poseidon, the only land route between the Peloponnese and Attika, and was strategically placed in times of war between Sparta and Athens.

The land was also renowned for its abundance of clay pits, with the resulting pottery production forming a principal part of its economy during the 5th century BCE. Another thing Korinthia, and especially Korinth, was famous for were the hetaerae.[1] Korinth was also an ally of Sparta and one of the strongest fleets(behind Athens).

During the Peloponnesian War the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited Korinthia while on a quest to locate her mother. Myrrine.[2] From Aspasia's guide she found Anthousa. During the investigation, Kassandra came across Brasidas.Together they worked against the Monger and eventually executed him in public, much to the disdain of Brasidas.

Trivia

  • The emblem of Korinthia features the stylized head and wing of Pegasos, for in the Greek myths it was Bellerophon, the son of the king of Korinth, who tamed the winged horse as it came to drink from the Spring of Peirene.
  • In the message boards of Korinthia, the emblem displayed is a full figure of Pegasos.
