The Spring of Peirene was a spring located east of the Temple of Aphrodite on the Akrokorinth in Korinthia, Greece.
History[edit | edit source]
Mythology[edit | edit source]
In Greek mythology, the spring was the favorite watering-hole of the winged horse, Pegasos. Once when he came to drink, he was captured by Bellerophon, the son of Korinth's King Glaukos.[1]
Peloponnesian War[edit | edit source]
When the hetaerae fled Korinth for fear of The Monger, they used the Spring of Peirene as a meeting place.[2]
During the Peloponnesian War, the spring was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[1]
