- "Hippokrates was born here. With all these herbs, it's no wonder he studied medicine."
- ―Kassandra describing the city, 420s BCE.[src]

Astypalia City was the largest city on the Greek island of Kos and its political center. It was also home to most of the island's population, among them Hippokrates, who was known as the "Father of Medicine".[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the city was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
Behind the scenes
Historically, the city was located near the modern-day town of Kefalos on Kos.
