The Zurich Brotherhood of Assassins was a branch of the Assassin Brotherhood located in the Swiss city of Zürich, founded by the French Assassin Henri Escoffier in the late 1860s.
History
By 1867, the French Assassin left Paris for Zürich[1] to aid revolutionary Mikhail Bakunin in his various uprisings. While there, he founded the Brotherhood and stationed their base in the mature Assassin Irene Egli's home.[2]
In 1873, the Zurich Assassin leader Henri welcomed his old friend, British Assassin Simeon Price and his lover, former Austrian Templar Countess Konstanze von Visler, who were hiding from the Templars. Henri cautioned Konstanze over their principles and rules but remained hospitable to their new addition. For the next three years, Konstanze divulged her information about the Templar Order and how they mapped past known locations of the Pieces of Eden, but the Brotherhood were ambivalent to chase them. Meanwhile, Simeon took the responsibility to train her while at their home in the Alps.[2]
In September 1876, the Zurich Brotherhood tasked Konstanze on her first mission, which was to infiltrate an international conference held by King Leopold II of Belgium and assassinate Templar cartographer Maynard Poole. Within two months, Konstanze completed her mission but was caught in a private with the king himself. After returning home with explorer Henry Morton Stanley, she betrayed Simeon and later left their home before the Zurich Brotherhood could respond.[3] As a caution, they burned down Egli's home and found a new safehouse as their base.[4]
