The Village of Gytheion was a small village on the shore of Forest of Eurotas region in Lakonia, Peloponnese, Greece. During the 5th century BCE, it served as a seaport for Sparta.
In around 429 BCE, the village served as the rendezvous point for Myrrine and her daughter, the misthios Kassandra as they returned to Sparta after almost two decades.[1]
The village was also the home of the shipwright who crafted the heavy trireme Lakonia during the Peloponnesian War.[2]
