The Stoa Poikilè, or the Painted Stoa was a stoa near the agora of Athens in Attika, Greece.
Named for the panels depicting the sack of Troy, painted during the 5th century BCE by Polygnotos, the stoa was a place favoured by philosophers. One of them, Zeno of Kition, used the stoa so extensively that his school of philosophy became known as Stoicism.[1]
Trivia
- Historically, the walls were depicted with paintings of the Battle of Marathon, the Amazonomachy, the sack of Troy, and the Battle of Oenoe. In Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, however, the walls are covered with a reconstruction of "Nekyia" by Polygnotos, historically located within the Lesche of the Knidians within the Sanctuary of Delphi.
