Some time after the war, Washington sought out his former ally, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton, to show him the artifact. During their meeting in the Frontier, Washington spoke about the strange dreams which he believed were caused by the Apple. Ratonhnhaké:ton asked if he could examine it, and Washington hesitantly agreed. Upon touching the Apple, Ratonhnhaké:ton awoke in an alternate reality projected by the Apple.

In this reality, Washington, corrupted by the power of the Apple, had crowned himself king after the end of the Revolutionary War, using the artifact's powers to oppress the people of the United States and ensure obedience from his commanders. Ratonhnhaké:ton eventually managed to end the illusion and return to the real world, where Washington asked him to take the Apple and sink it in the Atlantic ocean. The Assassin agreed, taking the Aquila out to sea and dropping the Apple into the depths. "I'm attacked by a new enemy. I fear I will succumb. [...] The dreams, they become unspeakable. You are in them, Connor. I believe the visions come from this."
―George Washington to Ratonhnhaké:ton, on the visions from the Apple.[src]

Apple of Eden #3 was a Piece of Eden, an object of ancient and technologically advanced equipment created by the First Civilization to control humankind, their workforce.

The third Apple of Eden was notably used by several Presidents of the United States, with George Washington being the first person known to have possessed the artifact.

History

Apple of Eden #3 was one of the numerous artifacts created by the First Civilization to control the minds of their slave race, the humans. After the Toba catastrophe in 75010 BCE, the First Civilization slowly became extinct, and the Pieces of Eden were scattered around the world.[1]

In October 1781, during the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Army defeated the British at the Siege of Yorktown, marking the decisive victory for the revolutionaries. During the British surrender, Commander George Washington found the Apple of Eden on 'a British officer' and, encharmed by the artifact's allure, took it from him - though he later could not remember the officer's face.[2]

After the war ended in 1783, Washington started to be plagued by dreams and visions created by the Apple, showing Washington being corrupted by the artifact's power and taking on the title of King of the United States, becoming a ruthless tyrant. Desperate to stop the visions, Washington sought out his former ally, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton, in the American frontier, explaining the visions to him. Ratonhnhaké:ton wanted to see the artifact, and Washington hesitantly agreed.[2]

As they both touched the Apple, Ratonhnhaké:ton awoke in the alternate reality, though he maintained his consciousness. With aid from American rebels, Ratonhnhaké:ton managed to defeat King Washington, though he too was ultimately drawn in by the Apple's power. When they both awoke, they both realized the Piece of Eden's dangers, and Washington told Ratonhnhaké:ton to take it from him and drop it into the sea.[2]

Ratonhnhaké:ton took his ship the Aquila out to sea, with the Apple wrapped in a bag. In the meantime, an illusional man created by the Apple spoke to Washington in his office, attempting to persuade him of a republic's flaws and to take on the mantle of King. Washington's resolve proved stronger, and he refused the man's advice, and the illusion disappeared as Ratonhnhaké:ton dropped the Apple into depths of the sea.[2]

By 1944, the Apple of Eden had wound up in the hands of Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, who was manipulated by the Templars alongside Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler into starting the Second World War.[3]

The Apple was later passed down to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President, whom the Templars perceived as a threat, as he was in favor of giving the working force more civil liberties. The driver in the motorcade, William Greer, under the influence of another Apple, took Kennedy's Piece after his assassination.[3]
