Pebble was a young Messenian girl who lived during the 5th century BCE. She was the daughter of Rhode, a helot who was forced by the Order of Dominion to construct weapons for their army.
Sometime between 429 and 422 BCE, she met the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who had come to Messenia tracking the Order of Dominion's activities. Kassandra freed Rhode from captivity and agreed to escort Pebble and the other helot children to the docks. On the way, she encountered and killed Commander Harpagos, much to Pebble's delight, who gave her the code name "Eaglethunder." At the docks, Kassandra faced a choice to send Pebble and the children out of Messenia, or to keep them in Messenia with their families. Pebble either left with the other children to an uncertain future far away from the horrid conditions in Aipeia, or she remained with her mother and later delivered a letter from Gergis to Kassandra requesting a meeting.
