They call me many things: Murderer. Cutthroat. Thief. But you may call me Oil Merchant. This article is about a subject that lacks an official name and is known only by its nickname, title, or alias. |
The Oil Merchant was a Boeotian merchant who lived in Thebes during the 5th century BCE.
History
The Oil Merchant set up the Oil Workshop in Thebes, and sold oil with the help of his trusty steed Spyro. Best of his customers was the local athlete and a champion of Boeotia, Drakon, who had a special liking for the merchant's flammable oil.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War soldiers from Potnies Military Camp stole Spyro, and took it back to their camp.[1]
When the Spartan misthios Kassandra came to Thebes, she found the merchant moaning the loss of Spyro. She offered to save the horse, and the merchant was pleased with this.[1]
