Bryce (died c. 422 BCE) was a villager of Eresos, Lesbos who lived during the 5th century BCE. She was the lover of Ligeia, who was a member of the Daughters of Artemis.
Biography
Sometime during the Peloponnesian War, after Ligeia went missing, Bryce was blamed for her disappearance by a mob of villagers, who proposed to push her off a cliff to her death. Bryce was rescued by the misthios, Kassandra, who eliminated the mob and assisted Bryce in locating Ligeia.[1]
Bryce led Kassandra to the Petrified Temple, where Ligeia was apparently taken. The temple needed a key to open, Kassandra later retrieved said key from the Daughters of Artemis who guarded it.[2] Once the temple was opened Bryce rushed inside, hearing Ligeia's voice. When Kassandra caught up to her, Bryce was trying to converse with Medusa, certain that she was Ligeia. She was then turned to stone by Medusa's gaze.[3]
