Biography[edit | edit source]

At some point during the Peloponnesian War, Pentheus fell ill. The physician Hippokrates saw to him but could only ease his pains, which were both physical as well as mental, for Pentheus was worried about the future of his son. To ease his mind, the two men requested the Spartan misthios Kassandra to steal some of the assets of the rivals of Pentheus' family.[1] After succeeding in this, Hippokrates sent Kassandra to gather some hemlock for Pentheus' pains.[2] Simultaneously, Pentheus himself begged Kassandra to help him end his life, but Hippokrates was firmly opposed to this.[2]
