"Listen, I don't ask questions. I just follow orders."
―Machaon's motto.[src]

Machaon the Feared (died 420s BCE) was a member of the Silver Vein branch of the Cult of Kosmos during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[edit | edit source]

A shipwright, Machaon made the shipyard in Patrai, Achaia, his base. There he managed the ship orders of Sparta, Athens, the Cult of Kosmos and whoever else required them.[1]

Before that, however, Machaon sacrificed his wealth for Kosmos. Since that didn't seem to work, Machaon sacrificed his only child, and then his servants. That didn't yield what Machaon desired, so he decided to sacrifice all the Greek world to the deity, sharing his Sage's warmongering desires.[1]

At some point, Klitos, one of Machaon's dockhands, stole documents from his office and ran off. Warned by the Sage of his branch to take care of the man before he had time to spread what he knew, Machaon contacted another member, the Silver Griffin, for aid.[2][3]

Meanwhile, Machaon continued to work on the ships, providing The Mytilenian Shark of the Gods of the Aegean Sea with the heavy trireme Eurybia, and Sotera of the Eyes of Kosmos with merchant ships to surveil the Isle of Salamis and Port of Piraeus. Machaon also provided his fellow branch member The Chimera with black-sailed biremes.[4]

Following the death of Klitos, the Spartan misthios Kassandra discovered the identity of Machaon and his location. He was subsequently sought out and slain by her.[5]

Personality and traits[edit | edit source]

Machaon was an incredibly devoted individual, being willing to donate all his drachmae to Kosmos and even to sacrifice his only child and servants.[1] Machaon was also perceived to be clueless, as Klitos was able to steal sensitive information without him knowing. He would not discover the theft until Polemon told him of it, and even then he chose to push the problem onto someone else rather than take care of Klitos himself.[2]

Skills and equipment[edit | edit source]

While Machaon did not wear a helmet, he had on his person a helmet belonging to the ancient Mycenaean king Agamemnon. Machaon was a hardened man, being able to withstand Kassandra's light attacks. He wielded an ordinary spear in combat and was somewhat proficient in its use.[5]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Machaon shares his name with the son of Asklepios and Epione in Greek mythology.
