Lavrio is a town located in the Silver Mountain region of Attika, Greece. In classical antiquity, it was known for its silver mines, which provided much wealth in the region.
During the 5th century BCE Lavrio and its mining camp were in the control of The Master, a member of the Eyes of Kosmos branch of the Cult of Kosmos, and heavily guarded. Despite it all, the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited the town, infiltrated the camp and even explored the depths one of the mines during the Peloponnesian War.[1]
