Agis of the North (died c. 429 BCE) was a mercenary hired by the Order of Hunters who operated in Makedonia, Greece during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Around 429 BCE, Agis was one of the mercenaries hired by the Order of Hunters to hunt down the misthios Kassandra, who was also a Tainted One. The influx of mercenaries troubled Ide, an elderly woman living in Amphipolis, and when she crossed paths with Kassandra,[1] Ide asked her to get rid of the mercenaries.[2] Kassandra did so, finding Agis at Amphipolis' docks, and killing him.[3]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The name Agis is derived from the Greek verb ago (ἄγω), meaning "to lead, to guide" or "to bring, to carry". This name was borne by several Eurypontid Kings of Sparta.
