"Mered rarely keeps protectors as allies. He doesn't trust authorities. But he pays well. And very few pay at all here in Giza. Cannot trust the sand in your hand."
―Mered's men to Bayek, 48 BCE.[src]-[m]

Mered was an Egyptian merchant who served as an informant of Apollodorus in Giza during the reign of Ptolemy XIII.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Mered was a merchant who operated his stall, Mered's Wares, in a market located in the ruins south of the Great Sphinx of Giza. In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa was directed by Apollodorus to Mered, who had information regarding the Hyena, a member of the Order of the Ancients. Mered was given a payment of drachmae, and revealed to Bayek the Hyena's real name to be Khaliset. In exchange for information about Khaliset's whereabouts, Mered asked Bayek for a favor, requesting him to retrieve his horse which he claimed to have been stolen by some of his customers from a hideout south of the market.[1]

Accompanied by several of Mered's men, Bayek was able to retrieve Mered's horse, bringing it back to the market. Honoring the deal, Mered revealed to Bayek that Khaliset lived in a cavern in the hills west of the pyramids of Giza and spent her time roaming the desert collecting silica.[1]
