The Python was a gigantic snake in the Greek mythology.
The Python was said to have lived in the Valley of the Snake near the Sanctuary of Delphi in Phokis, until it was slain by the god Apollo. Following the snake's demise, the occupation of the Pythia was born.[1]
By the 5th century BCE, the skeleton of a gigantic snake, wrapped around the ruins of the Snake Temple was believed to be what remained of the mythical serpent.[1]
