Peloponnese
The Peloponnese is a peninsula which constitutes the southern mainland of Greece. Named after the Greek hero Pelops, the region is home to not only Sparta, one of the most powerful poleis in the classical era, but also the Olympic Games in Elis.
During that era, the Peloponnese was been subdivided into five regions: Argolis, Lakonia, Arkadia, Korinthia, Elis, and Achaia. In modern times, these remain the administrative units of the region with the exception of Achaia. Geographically, the peninsula is virtually an island; it is connected to the rest of the Greek mainland only by the narrow Isthmus of Korinth where the eponymous city Korinth sits.
It considered as one of the most beautiful regions in all of Greece.
