Minos
In Greek mythology, Minos was the first king of Krete, said to have been the son of Zeus and Europa.
Husband of Pasiphae, King Minos ordered the architect Daidalos to create the infamous Labyrinth that housed the Minotaur.[1]
Influence and legacy
By the 5th century BCE, a region of Messara was named after the king, called Minos' Legacy. Of special note in the region was the Knossos Palace.[2]
During the excavations at Knossos during the early 20th century, the archaeologist Arthur John Evans named the Minoan civilization after king Minos.[3]
