Leto is a Greek goddess of motherhood and 'womanly demure', with whom the god Zeus sired the twins Apollo and Artemis. In Roman myths, her equivalent is called Latona.

According to the story, Zeus' wife, Hera cursed Leto so that she couldn't give birth on solid ground. The way around this curse was by finding the island of Delos.
