The Kalydonian Boar was a rare boar which inhabited the northwest region of Phokis, Greece, in the Sacred Lands of Apollo.
In 431 BCE, the leader of the Daughters of Artemis, Daphnae, dispatched the Spartan misthios, Kassandra to hunt down the beast. When she does so, Kassandra recovered a pelt from the beast and handed it to Daphnae as proof of her success.[1]
Trivia
- In Greek mythology, the Kalydonian Boar was a beast sent by Artemis to ravage the region of Calydon in Aetolia. Several members of the Argonauts, including Atalanta, Jason and Asklepios, took part in the hunt for the beast.
