Hymir was an Isu and Jötunn in Norse mythology.

Mythology

In the Prose Edda Thor and Hymir went fishing for Jörmungandr. When Thor caught him and tried to reel in, Hymir caught him loose. In the Poetic Edda Hymir is the father of Tyr, however in the Prose Edda that position is held by Odin.[1]

Biography

Hymir had a great cauldron in his possession until the Isu Thor killed him and claimed it. Thor gave Hymir's cauldron to Ægir so that he could held great feasts for the Æsir in Jötunheimr. Eventually, Ægir lost the cauldron in a bet to Suttungr.[2] Sons of Hymir intercepted the cauldron when it was being relocated and brought it to Skrymir's Mitten in Hymir's name.[3]
