Daphnae
Daphnae was the leader of the Daughters of Artemis who resided in Chios, Greece, during the 5th century BCE.
Biography
Sometime in 431 BCE while visiting the Temple of Artemis in Phokis, Daphnae made the acquaintance of the Spartan misthios Kassandra and tasked her with the hunting of eight legendary creatures found across Greece.[1]
After Kassandra obtained the hides of all the legendary creatures, Daphnae met her on the island of Chios, the sanctuary of the Daughters, where she revealed that the tasks were meant to as tests, and whoever succeeded in them, would be considered a challenger for the position of the leader of the Daughters. The challenger and the acting leader would then fight to the death in order to decide the leader of the Daughters of Artemis.[2]
