Charles Blondin (1824 – 1897) was a renowned French tightrope walker and an acrobat.

Biography

In 1861, at a new location of the Crystal Palace, Blondin performed for his crowd, which included Pierrette Arnaud, as he tied a rope near two ends of the palace's ceiling. After running nimbly across the rope, he later used a stilts and an umbrella, which led to further applause. However, the response changed once he introduced a wheelbarrow with one of his daughters inside. Once the audience started to boo, he safely returned the wheelbarrow back and started to regress back to his other tricks.[1]
