Brasidas of Sparta (died 422 BCE) was a Spartan officer who lived during the 5th century BCE.
Biography
In 431 BCE, he assisted a fellow Spartan and misthios Kassandra in destroying a warehouse belonging to The Monger, a member of the Cult of Kosmos based in Korinth. Afterwards, he discussed how to deal with the Monger, insisting the cultist be killed behind the scenes, rather than be publicly lynched, as the hetaeraAnthousa desired, believing it would lead to anarchy in Korinth.[1]
Two years later, following Kassandra's and Myrrine's return to Lakonia, he assisted them in their efforts to reclaim their citizenship and home.
6 years later in 425 BCE, he participated in the defense of Pylos in Messenia against Athens, suffering heavy injuries during the battle.
He was killed at the Battle of Amphipolis in 422 BCE after being impaled on his own spear by Deimos, Kassandra's younger brother.
