Achaia

Achaia is a regional unit in Greece situated in the Peloponnese. Its main cities were Patrai, Pellene, and Dyme, whose inhabitants were skilled shipwrights during the Peloponnesian War with each city contributing to the naval construction in their own way. In this way, Achaia was essentially the shipyard of Greece, and its thriving industry ensured that it had a medium-sized population relative to the rest of Greece in the 5th century BCE.
