Wilhelm I or William I (1797 – 1888) was King of Prussia from 1861 and German emperor from 1871 until his death in 1888.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 1870, aided by his Foreign Minister Otto von Bismarck's schemes, Wilhelm led the German alliance into a war against Napoleon III's Second French Empire,[2] a war which ended the French domination in continental Europe and established the German Empire as the dominant power in the region.[3]
