Tychon (died 38 BCE) was a Greek official and nomarch of Thebes Nome during the reign of Cleopatra.

Biography

In the late 1st century BCE, Tychon controlled Thebes, where he demanded a large tax from citizens. Secretly, he also worked alongside Athames, the strategos of Yebu, desecrating the tombs around the Theban Necropolis for precious relics and treasures. This allowed him to gain much weatlh and purchase a villa in Thebes.[1] During this time, he became interested in finding Akhenaten's sanctuary.[2]

By 38 BCE, Tychon was joined by the thief and smuggler Irsu, aiding him in his search for a relic belonging to Akhenaten. Tychon also began scavenging in territories owned by Athames, leading to tensions between the two. In the meantime, Tychon stopped paying Irsu for his services, which lead the smuggler to send a letter to him, demanding that Tychon stay true to his agreement.[1]

Later that year, Tychon was based in the Temple of Hatshepsut, patrolling between the temple and the military camp nearby. However, He was assassinated by the Hidden One Bayek of Siwa in the Theban Necropolis, who retrieved his ledger containing the location of a statue of Amun in his collection.[3]
