Triton is a Greek god and messenger of the sea. As son of Poseidon and Amphitrite, god and goddess of the sea, he is often depicted as a merman.
Triton possessed a conch shell with which he controlled the sea, creating or calming waves. Like his father, he wielded a trident. [citation needed]
Influence
In 5th century BCE, a small island in the Aegean Sea was named after him; the island housed a large statue of, as well as a temple dedicated to, his father Poseidon.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra recovered Triton's legendary conch shell made from gold at the request of the pirate queen Xenia.[2]
Aletheia's simulation of Atlantis
In Aletheia's simulation of Atlantis lies a Garden named after him in the northeastern part of the city.[3]
