South Africa

South Africa, officially the Republic of South Africa, is a sovereign state occupying the southern tip of Africa.

History

War with England

In the mid-19th century, the British Empire was at war with the Xhosa Kingdom in what was the Cape Colony. The Royal Navy sent reinforcements in the form of a frigate, the HMS Birkenhead. In 1852, however, the frigate struck a large rock and sank along the country's coast. Many British soldiers died, others were evacuated in time, and few survived the impact.

Late modern period

In the fall of 1913, First Civilization skulls were found in the village of Boskop.
